Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a common condition that may lead to nerve damage. The Carpal Tunnel is a semicircle of wrist bones bounded on the remaining side by a ligament. Within this confined space pass nine tendons, spongy synovial tissue and the Median Nerve. When this tissue swells, the nerve becomes pinched. Symptoms may include numbness, tingling, weakness, clumsiness, and wrist pain at night or while driving or performing actions that require hand elevation. Pain may be present in the hands, wrists, forearms or shoulders. The problem is often misdiagnosed. Delay or lack of treatment can result in permanent nerve cell death from chronic pressure on the nerve.
